Biking in the heat - we cyclists have to get used to it if we want to keep touring in the summer.
This realization came to me while riding RAGBRAI a few years ago. It was so hot, we were all -melting.
But all the kids in all the neighborhoods had their lemonade stands setup - ready for the hot and tired masses on two wheels. Saved by the children of Iowa!
I since have added a few double-walled Kleen Kanteen metal water containers for hot rides. My ice water wont last forever, but the left over cold water really helps the spirit.
Amazing fortitude wonderful writer and a true adventurer!
A tall glass of iced lemonade, what a great image
Thanks Jane, well written.

Keep on bike-writing!
Hi Doug, I love this — saved by the enterprising youth of Iowa. Adapting is definitely something we have to get used to.
